NYMBO Update
Tollerton Lanequest
As I look out of my office window at the snow drifting across the garden I am relieved that this event was held yesterday. Allan Hartley had planned an excellent course in pleasant countryside between the Rivers Ouse/Ure and Swale and the A19, north of York, while Jens produced another excellent map. It is obviously a low lying area with the highest point on the map only 32m above sea level but the quiet country lanes and some excellent bridleways meant that everyone could spend most of the 2 hours in top gear. Some of the distances covered by the leading riders were very impressive. There were 57 riders so congratulations to the winners in each category
M21 Andy Conn just managed to beat Kris Smith by 2 points with an impressive score of 450 points. Kris's route was 2 8 13 25 27 9 22 26 20 11 29 24 30 28 4 15 6 14 18 16 5 10 23 19 3 1 and I wouldn't be surprised if Andy's wasnt very similar but he got back well within time.
W21 Pippa Archer rode in her first NYMBO event and beat regular winner Karen Blackburn by 73 points. Pippa's route was very similar to Kris
2,8,13,25,27,9,22,26,20,11,29,24,30,7,4,28,18,16,5,10,19,3,1
M50 John Dixon used his cycling fitness to beat David Day by 40 points John's route was the opposite way round 1 3 19 23 10 5 16 18 28 4 15 7 30 24 29 21 12 26 22 9 27 25 13 8 2 which adds up to 56km!!!
X21 Heather Robinson & ? McPartland teamed up to win their first event
Gen Peter & Brad Kane won at their first attempt beating other newcomers Tim & Edwin Evans by just 18 points
I went round the same way as John Dixon but reached my limit at #24 and headed for home. It was lovely to ride in this area again for the first time since Andrew Windrum's event which started at Newton on Ouse a few years ago. I had already decided to ride the bridleways between Linton and Youlto then Aldwark and Myton before I started - lovely countryside but not many points and I now know that I am not fit enough to go much further than 40km in 2 hours!!
The Black Horse made an excellent event centre to start, finish and socialise. We can now strongly recommend it for friendly service, tasty real ale, good food and warming open fires!!
I have got 2 items of lost property - a pair of glasses from last month and a pair of gloves. Please get in touch if they are yours and I will bring them to the next event which David Day is planning in the Howardian Hills.

Jens Strain has produced an excellent poster for the NYMBO League which will be available at our first event in March. Please collect a copy and take it to your local bike shop or sports centre.
Unfortunately the entry fee has had to increase due to higher FC access charges for the 5 forest events. However, the time limit for these 5 events has increased to 3 hours and there are higher reductions for riders with their own SI cards and members of British Orienteering.
Don't forget to join BMBO on line as a Full member for £15 or an Associate member for free – which will save you time and money at all BMBOevents. It will help all organisers if you can do so before your next event.
